Take Hollywood Home -Bowers & Wilkins announces dramatically improved new M1 compact monitor and PV1D subwoofer, plus new finish option on ASW608 subwoofer, combined to create powerful Mini Theater systems.
M-1 loudspeaker gets enhanced full-range performance. PV1D subwoofer updates the ground-breaking “pressure vessel” Bowers & Wilkins subwoofer with a new digital platform, improved drive units and amplification. All products are available in stunning new Matte Black and Matte White finishes.
N. Reading, MA—February 2012—Bowers & Wilkins’ M1, the heart of the company’s Mini Theater packages, has been one of the major success stories in the world of home audio. Since launching six years ago, M1 has garnered many glowing reviews, won numerous awards and achieved top selling status around the world. But Bowers & Wilkins always looks for ways to improve its products and with the all new M1 ultra compact loudspeaker, performance is taken to a whole new level.
The M-1 loudspeaker can be a key component in 5.1 packages, acting as it does as all five speakers in a surround set up – a cleverly designed table-top stand lets the center speaker sit horizontally. But it’s also a great stereo solution, as one of the most dramatic upgrades from the out-going M-1 is this speaker’s full range performance: it now offers a stereo performance comparable to larger bookshelf speakers.
In order to achieve these improvements the M-1 has been completely redesigned internally, although only subtle styling differences are visible externally. It features all new drive units, including an in-house designed tweeter, and a bass/mid-range driver that uses the new Anti-Resonance Plug first seen on the high-end PM1 loudspeaker.
As well as these acoustic improvements, the mechanics of the M-1 have been updated, with improved speaker cable terminations and a more robust connection to the stands – a table-top stand and wall bracket are supplied in the box, while, a floor stand is available as an optional extra.
The PV1D, easily the most successful Bowers & Wilkins subwoofer globally, gets a dramatic update. While it retains its acoustically principled “pressure vessel” structurally inert shape with opposed balanced drivers cancelling cabinet resonance, the PV1D now moves to the digital platform developed for the flagship Bowers & Wilkins DB1 subwoofer and includes a dynamic EQ circuit. This provides increased flexibility and performance enhancements that, coupled with new drive units and amplification, lead to dramatically improved output. In fact, the PV1D has a +/-3db specification of a truly impressive 7.5Hz! This very low cut off gives the PV1D a much greater ability to display a sense of space and scale that is relevant for both movie effects and music. In spite of its still compact dimensions and elegant appearance, it is comparable to far larger subwoofers from an acoustic standpoint.
A new OLED display and touch button array provide easy access to a number of pre-sets and tuning options, while a custom version of the SubApp™ PC software provides more advanced set-up options.
The third element in the Mini Theatre series is the ASW608 subwoofer. While this model remains the same acoustically, it is now available in the same stunning Matte White finish as the M-1 loudspeakers.
Two possible 5.1 system configurations of the upgraded Mini Theater series are the MT-60D and MT-50. These systems provide users with an immersive experience, but in relatively compact, discreet packages that fit easily into people’s lifestyles. Both systems offer excellent performance, but the MT-60D sets new standards for what can be expected from a compact, stylish speaker package. This jump in quality is a result of partnering an up-graded M-1 loudspeaker, with the new PV1D, a dramatically improved version of the highly acclaimed opposed-drive-unit subwoofer. The MT-50, a more affordable system option, sees the new M-1s partnered with the ASW608 subwoofer.
Mini Theater is available early 2012 and costs:
M-1 - $250/ea.
PV1D - $1,700
ASW608 - $500
M-1 floor stand - $150/ea.
MT-50 - $1,750
MT-60D - $2,950

Bowers & Wilkins Introduces New CI 300 Custom Installation Series and ISW-3 Subwoofer
N. Reading, MA—July 2011—Just a little over a year ago, Bowers & Wilkins launched the CI600 and CI700 in-wall and in-ceiling loudspeaker systems which ushered in levels of performance, visual appeal and ease of installation that set new standards at their price points.
Now, B&W announces the CI300 series, an entry-level priced range designed for installations for which budgets are a consideration. "Our high-value, high-performance in-wall and in-ceiling CI 300 speakers are entry-level in price only," says Doug Henderson, V.P. Sales & Marketing. "The same acoustic and industrial design teams that created the higher-end ranges, led by Dr. John Dibb, developed the CI 300 models. From sound quality to installation mechanics, the CI 300s are extremely well-executed designs that have no peers at their price points."
There are three models in the CI 300 series: the CWM362, CCM362, and CCM382. The CCM362 ($300/pr) is an in-ceiling model with a 6-inch polypropylene cone bass/midrange driver and a 1-inch soft-dome tweeter. The CCM382 ($400/pr) is a larger in-ceiling speaker with the same 1-inch soft dome tweeter but with an 8-inch bass/midrange driver to provide deeper bass and higher sensitivity. The CWM362 ($400/pr) is a two-way, in-wall speaker based on the CCM362’s driver set. (Pictured is the model CCM362)
The CI300 models feature the same thin bezeled frame as the CI600 models, and the ceiling models can be used with optional square grille adapters designed to match popular in-ceiling lighting designs. They share the same cutout sizes, so PMKs and backboxes can be used interchangeably. Swing-out dogs and spring-clip wire terminals keep installation simple and easy.
The CI300 models have been designed with high moisture resistance for use in bathrooms, indoor pool areas, and more. Shallow in depth, the CCM362 is only 3.2” deep, and the CWM362 is 3” deep, to fit in 3” stud bays (assuming at least ½-inch Sheetrock.)
“While the new 300 Series has been designed for budget applications, the performance is clearly first rate.” continues Henderson. All drivers, crossovers components, and construction materials have been specified and evaluated by the best ears in the business. The sound is unmistakably B&W.”
The CI300 Series is the latest step in the revamping of the entire Custom Installation line.
Versatile Subwoofer: The ISW-3
The ISW-3 was born out of input from custom installers, particularly in the U.S., who were looking for an installation subwoofer with as close to a “zero visual footprint” as possible.
The ISW-3 features a unique forward-facing vent with a slotted grille that allows for installation into millwork and kitchen cabinets while venting through the base or toe kick, or it can be installed in walls, floors, or ceilings.
The subwoofer’s two 6.5” long-throw drivers vent through a 2 x 12” HVAC-type slot. Thanks to the balanced driver design, mechanical energy is not transmitted to the enclosure, thus eliminating any rattling of glassware or dishes even as plenty of deep bass is pumped into the room. The ISW-3 can vent directly through its slot facing forward, at which point it is only 9.25” deep (by 18.5” tall), or it can used with a unique right angle adaptor for placement on its face, taking up minimal height inside a cabinet. Placement choice is optional depending on the installation requirement. It is only 13” wide, designed to fit within many truss-style joists.
The ISW-3 is powered by a MkII version of the existing SA-250 rack mount amplifier. The SA-250MkII offers an external EQ switch setting for either the ISW-3 or ISW-4 in-wall subwoofer, plus a stereo summing input for distributed audio applications. A single SA-250MkII can power two ISW-3 or two ISW-4.
Of course, the ISW-3 had to be more than clever to please the Bowers & Wilkins engineers. With usable, low-distortion bass output down to a very respectable 21Hz, it is a true subwoofer. No energy is lost through pliable “vent hoses” and the like—the box is as solid as a rock, for clean output. Whether for distributed music or for stealth media-room applications, the ISW-3 will allow consumers to see nothing while hearing everything.
Availability & Suggested Retail Pricing: The ISW-3 and SA-250MkII will be available in mid-summer 2011. Both will retail for USD $1,000 each.
Bowers & Wilkins is proud to announce C5 in-ear,
noise-isolating headphones
C5 in-ear, noise-isolating headphones offer pristine sound quality on the move. The innovate Secure Loop design keeps C5 comfortably in place, and aids fit and performance. Plus the proprietary Micro Porous Filter enables C5 to produce a wonderfully open, natural performance, perfect for longer listening sessions.
N. Reading, MA—July 11, 2011 B N. North Reading, MA—July 11, 2011 Bowers & Wilkins’ debut of the C5 in-ear headphones brings the option of amazing clarity of sound, innovative design, and high-quality materials for the discerning customer who demands premium performance from in-ear headphones.
Best in class sound quality is an attribute long associated with Bowers & Wilkins products. From the 800 Series Diamond to Zeppelin Air to the highly-regarded P5 mobile hi-fi headphones, Bowers & Wilkins products have stood out within their respective categories for 45 years. C5 takes this quality to a new arena: in-ear headphones.
As with all Bowers & Wilkins products, C5 is a mixture of long-held acoustic principles and technological advances. Key among the advances is the Micro Porous Filter. This acts as a diffuser, enabling C5 to deliver pristine, natural audio, while also providing a more spacious performance than previously possible from in-ear headphones. It also has the advantage of limiting noise bleed, and together with the noise-isolating properties of the sealed fit, this allows users to lose themselves in flawless audio.
Almost as vital as performance in the in-ear headphone arena is comfort and quality of fit. C5 addresses this with the introduction of the proprietary Secure Loop design, an ingenious innovation where a cushioned loop fixes quickly and comfortably in the inner ridge of the user’s ear. This solution holds C5 in place for improved sound, and also makes it ideal for use on the move and during activities. The Secure Loop is infinitely adjustable, so it works perfectly with anyone’s ears.
Adding to this sense of comfort is C5’s Tungsten Balanced design. Here, high-mass material is located closer to the user’s ear, for an improved seal for better sound and noise isolation. Elsewhere C5 is crafted from high-grade aluminum for a premium-quality finish.
C5 comes supplied with a Made For iPhone compatible cable, which is ideal for making calls on the move, and a quilted pouch for easy storage.

N. Reading, MA—June 2011—Bowers & Wilkins’ 805s were the favorite “go to” product for a very long time for audiophiles considering a compact two-way speaker in the $2,500 - $3,500 price range, states Doug Henderson – Vice President Sales & Marketing. “When B&W upgraded the entire 800 series to Diamond status last year, we made Diamond more affordable than ever in the form of the 805D, but also vacated an important price point. Many dealers were quick to tell us that we needed to fill the gap.”
“Merely “filling a price-point gap” has never been B&W’s raison d’être, however. Our engineers were issued the challenge to develop a new reference standard at the $3,000 mark. I am proud to say not only did they rise to the challenge, but they surpassed all of our expectations by a wide margin! Introducing the Prestige Monitor 1, PM-1 for short.”
The PM-1 features several new technological innovations that account for unprecedented performance in its price range. At the top of the list is a new Carbon Braced Tweeter high frequency driver, which features an aluminum dome that has been strategically stiffened with a ring made of filament-wound Ultra High Modulus Pitch based carbon fiber. This construction technique pushes the breakup frequency of an aluminum dome up to 40kHz. Of course, these wavelengths are well above the limits of human hearing, but as with the 800 Series Diamond tweeters, the design provides a marked reduction in distortion at audible frequencies below 20kHz, and results in the sweetest sounding non-Diamond tweeter we’ve developed yet. As with the 800 series models, this tweeter is completely outboard the bass/mid enclosure in its own tapered tube housing.
Like the 800 Series Diamond tweeter, the drive unit also uses the same new surround material that gives wider dispersion at higher frequencies. This wider dispersion preserves the harmonic structure of instruments and voices and enables the listener to pinpoint the position of the performer with greater accuracy and stability.
Another component that has undergone substantial improvement is with the bass/midrange driver. Our Kevlar® cone driver is renowned for its ability to deliver clarity and detail at mid frequencies. New, though, is the Foam Damping Cap (FDC) in the center. Unlike the majority of dust caps, this mushroom-shaped device is a tight fit inside the voice coil former. The stiffness and resistance properties of the foam are adjusted to damp down the tendency of the coil former to go out of round under the influence of cone break-up modes. Damp the motion of the former and you also reduce the cone break-up with a commensurate reduction in sound overhang. This accounts for the desired “slam” without the unwanted bloom of lesser bass drivers. You will be surprised at the bass clarity and impact from such a compact speaker, I assure you.
No less attention has been paid to the crossover, which is critical to the overall balance and smooth response of the system. For the PM-1, we have taken a few leaves out of the 800 Series Diamond design book by adopting oxygen-free copper for the conducting path of the terminals and Mundorf M-Cap Supreme Oil capacitors in the minimalist crossover. The addition of oil reduces microphony effects inside the capacitor – the tendency that all components have to convert small mechanical vibrations into low-level electrical signals that can reduce clarity.
The cabinet itself is a work of art, with clear echoes of the 800 Series. At B&W we pioneered extreme cabinet bracing with the introduction of the original Matrix™ cabinet back in 1985. We have continuously evolved this design over the years and have developed cabinet designs that reduce mechanical vibration down to infinitesimal levels. The PM-1 is a superbly advanced example, using the latest generation of Matrix interlocking panels, curved cabinetry, and a mineral loaded resin baffle. Tap anywhere on the enclosure to prove to yourself how quiet it is. As you know, an inert enclosure translates directly to low coloration sound.
The PM1 offers a compelling blend of new technologies and features that have been adopted from the flagship 800 Series Diamond. The result is an exquisite two-way loudspeaker that is far more than the sum of its many impressive parts. We believe it will set the performance bar at its price tier higher than ever before, and allow listeners in smaller spaces or with budget constraints to experience much of our flagship 800 Series performance in a package that suits their needs.
The PM-1 is available in a Mocha Gloss finish with an optional matching stand. Suggested retail is $2,800 per pair. Stands are $550 per pair. Available late June 2011.

Bowers & Wilkins launches 800 Series Diamond
Closer to true sound
January 2010- Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series has long provided the benchmark by which all high-end speakers are judged. Five generations of 800 Series have offered an unbeatable combination of outstanding performance, the latest audio technology and stunning aesthetic design. Now the 800 Series Diamond builds on that legacy, with vastly improved performance across the board and for the first time the inclusion of a diamond dome tweeter in every speaker in the seven-model range.
Bowers & Wilkins is proud to announce the launch of the 800 Series Diamond. The first new incarnations of the legendary 800 Series for six years brings Bowers & Wilkins closer to the ultimate ambition of its founder, John Bowers – to create a transducer that truly neither adds to nor subtracts from the original signal.
The 800 Series has long been the world’s premier high-end loudspeaker range. Designed for the home, but offering levels of quality such that the most demanding recording and mastering studios in the world choose to use them. Abbey Road Studios in London and Skywalker Sound in California both use Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series.
The already unrivalled levels of performance are boosted by the implementation of Bowers & Wilkins’ famous diamond tweeter technology throughout the whole range, including the new 805 Diamond, a speaker that brings diamond tweeters into the range of more discerning listeners than ever before.
Further major advances in audio-critical areas provide the entire range with a dramatic leap forward in terms of audio quality compared to the outgoing 800 Series. The diamond dome tweeter is now a quad-magnet design, which increases efficiency and improves the dynamic range of the top-end performance. A new surround material aids dispersion characteristics, and provides a more stable stereo image while increasing openness.
At the other end of the tonal scale, bass performance has also improved with the introduction of a new dual magnet motor system, which utilizes powerful neodymium magnets. This innovative design improves the linearity of the bass drivers’ performance, therefore reducing harmonic distortion.
Serious work has also gone into the small details that combine to make a loudspeaker special. New Bowers & Wilkins-designed oxygen-free-copper speaker terminals and links ensure the signal quality into the speaker is the best possible. All models’ crossovers feature a new design of capacitor using a unique silver, gold and oil construction. This component, chosen subjectively by Bowers & Wilkins engineers, in itself provides a dramatic increase in sound quality.
Elsewhere, proprietary Bowers & Wilkins technologies such as Kevlar® FST™ mid-range drivers, Nautilus™ tube-loaded tweeters, Matrix™ enclosures and the unique sphere/tube heads on the two largest speakers in the range, remain as acoustically valid as ever.
800 Series Diamond is fully manufactured in the UK, at Bowers & Wilkins new cabinet factory in Worthing, West Sussex. All seven speakers feature attractive new design touches, and are available in a choice of three finishes: Rosenut, Cherrywood and a stunning new Piano Black gloss.
The 805 Diamond is possibly the most requested speaker that Bowers & Wilkins has never made… until now. This groundbreaking book shelf model sees diamond tweeter technology arrive in the most affordable, real world speaker yet, and brings this level of stunning audio performance into the reach of many discerning listeners for the first time.
The 804 Diamond is the smallest floorstander in the range, and has a similar footprint to the 805 Diamond when placed on the stand. And like the 805 Diamond it too benefits from the implementation of a diamond dome tweeter for the first time.
The 803 Diamond provides people with more conservative taste many of the benefits of the 800 Series Diamond’s range-topping models, but in a more traditional floorstanding speaker design. It has a significantly reduced footprint from the speakers above it, and utilizes three 7-inch bass drivers rather than the 802 Diamond’s twin 8-inch cones.
The 802 Diamond is the home-friendly version of the 800 Diamond. It offers many of the benefits of the flagship speaker, including the distinctive head unit, but with a reduced footprint for fitting into living environments. A new voice coil and bass realignment means that the 802 Diamond benefits from dramatically improved bass performance.
The 800 Diamond is the flagship of the range, and is the latest incarnation of the speakers used in Abbey Road Studios. This no-compromise performer is better than ever, benefiting from all of the series-wide developments, and featuring significantly improved bass thanks to a new voice coil and bass realignment, which provides fuller, and more consistent bottom end performance.
The new 800 Series Diamond also features two dedicated centre channels for home theatre use. The larger HTM2 Diamond is the perfect partner for the larger speakers in the range. The more compact HTM4 Diamond, which again sees the introduction of diamond tweeter technology in a real world centre speaker, is the perfect partner for systems comprised of 805 or 804 Diamond.
A number of speakers have been removed from the previous 800 Series in this new slimmed down range, including the 801D and any dedicated rear channel speakers; the latter, because customers usually chose 805s over these options.
Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series Diamond is available from February 2010, and priced as follows:
800 Diamond $24,000 per pair
802 Diamond $15,000 per pair
803 Diamond $10,000 per pair
804 Diamond $7,500 per pair
805 Diamond $5,000 per pair
HTM2 Diamond $5,000 each
HTM4 Diamond $2,500 each

Bowers & Wilkins Launches New
CM Series Models
Elegant range gets sophisticated new speakers and a stylish new finish
N. Reading, MA — Four new CM Series loudspeakers offer more choice to customers who desire stylish looks without comprising on performance. A seriously grown-up three-way floorstander, a larger stand-mount model, a new center channel and the range’s first dedicated subwoofer join the three speakers already available, while a stunning polished black gloss finish offers a fresh new look.
The CM Series from Bowers & Wilkins has long been a favorite among its discerning customers. Offering a combination of high performance and exquisite styling at a very affordable price, it sits comfortably between the exceptional value of the 600 Series and the high-end excellence of the 800 Series.
The new CM Series continues to provide stunning audio performance, backed up by cabinets in a choice of exceptional real wood veneers. But four new speakers offer customers increased choice when designing a stereo or home theatre system, and the addition of a polished gloss black finish offers them the option of a completely different style statement, and at no extra cost.
The first new model is the CM9, a three-way floorstanding speaker. It features a 25mm aluminum dome tweeter, a 150mm Kevlar® FST™ midrange driver and twin 165mm paper/Kevlar® bass drivers for a refined yet room filling performance and is ideal for customers looking for a more substantial sound than the smaller CM7 speaker.
The CM5 is a two-way stand-mount speaker designed to provide another dimension to the range and complement the incredibly compact CM1. It features a 25mm aluminum dome tweeter and 165mm Kevlar® bass/midrange driver.
Home Theatre enthusiasts will be thrilled by the addition of a second, larger center channel speaker, the CM Center 2. Larger than the CM Center, it gives increased output and bass extension, and features an FST™ midrange driver to provide a seamless match with the CM9s.
Finally there’s the ASW 10CM subwoofer. Its 25cm paper/Kevlar® cone bass unit coupled to a massive 500-watt amplifier in an elegant cabinet that belies the power it contains. This addition allows customers to specify a complete CM Series Home Theatre system for the first time, providing them with the option of a stylish surround system that doesn’t compromise on sound quality.
As you’d expect from Bowers & Wilkins, the outward style is backed up with serious sonic substance. The B&W-built drive units are custom designed by the engineers at its world-famous Research Establishment in Steyning, West Sussex specifically to work optimally in each CM cabinet. The inherently smooth response of the drivers allows the use of minimalist crossovers in crucial, sonic areas. Quite simply, having fewer components means purer signals. This simplified but most sonically effective design approach allows the engineers to spend many, many hours of listening time rigorously auditioning and selecting the correct components for the job.
Two of the new CM Series models also feature B&W’s innovative FST™ driver. This technology further improves the performance of the famous Kevlar® drive units, and appears in a newly developed form in the CM9 floorstander and the CM Center 2.
The CM Series bass drivers also benefit from longer voice coils and stronger magnets than the 600 Series that sits below it. This provides the speakers with more punch and attack, but also cuts down on distortion. All of which combines to ensure that while the CM Series is certainly one of the most elegant speaker ranges around, it’s also the best sounding.
The existing models - the highly compact CM1, floorstanding CM7 and CM Center - remain as key products in the range, and all are available in the new polished gloss black finish as well as Rosenut and Wengé.
Bowers & Wilkins’s new CM Series will be available in October and will be priced as follows:
CM9 $1,500 each
CM5 $750 each
CMC2 $1,250 each
ASW 10CM $1,500 each

Bower & Wilkins Adds 600 Series Sub
N. Reading, MA—The affordable 600 Series from Bowers & Wilkins, British maker of widely admired high-performance loudspeakers, has been an unqualified success since its introduction among customers and critics alike. Now the popular 600 Series family adds a new subwoofer, the ASW 610XP, that delivers reference performance from an amazingly compact, high-value design.
The new ASW 610XP utilizes a single 10-inch driver in a carefully calculated sealed enclosure, with substantial power, to surprising results: flat response to 25 Hz (-3 dB) with useful bass extension to 18 Hz (-6 dB), and impressively powerful and dynamic output potential. One secret to this remarkable performance is the ASW 610XP’s unique driver, a very long-throw “ten” with dual, high-current voice-coils and extremely strong, paper/Kevlar™ cone. Another is its “extra powerful” amplifier, a very efficient, audiophile-grade Class D design that delivers a true 500 watts to the sub’s operating band.
The new sub includes B&W’s familiar three-position EQ switching, which can maximize extension (setting “A”) or SPL (“C”), or compromise between the two (“B”). Additional controls include line-in level, low-pass frequency with bypass, bass rolloff alignment, and phase, plus auto-on/off/standby. The ASW 610XP includes both line-level (RCA) and speaker-level (binding posts) inputs, and a 12-volt on/off trigger. Measuring just 13x13x15 inches (approx.), the newest Bowers & Wilkins sub is available in Black Ash, Red Cherry, or Wenge vinyl-woodgrain finishes.
Available: Immediately, at a manufacturer’s suggested price of $1,200 each.

A Zeppelin in the Livingroom
Bowers & Wilkins' iPod® Speaker Uniquely Designer-Friendly
N. Reading, MA-August 2008-Knowledgeable designers are very careful about loading up a room with the bulk and busy-ness of high-tech audio-and with good reason. And yet many of these very same interior artists are willing and even eager to accommodate a Zeppelin in their designs.
The Bowers & Wilkins' Zeppelin is from the world leader in high-end loudspeakers for serious music and home-theater fans. The British firm's beautifully formed and crafted, highly compact one-piece Zeppelin iPod® Speaker System has already won over the audiophile community with its jaw-dropping sonic abilities. Now it is taking the interior-design world by storm, with début installations in a growing number of impressive boutique hotels, including Hong Kong's Mandarin Oriental Landmark and the chic new dana Hotel & Spa in Chicago. Its' taken home several awards as well, including a 2008 International Design Excellence Award (IDEA®) Gold from the Industrial Designers Society of America. One judge wrote, "This is brave design-high performance sound in a user-friendly, blatantly different and very well detailed 'package.'" (Zeppelin's other awards include, the 2008-2009 Best Product award from EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association, the 2008 MacWorld award for Best Consumer Audio Product and the Robb Report Home Entertainment's 10 Best Design award for 2008).
Bowers & Wilkins explicitly created Zeppelin to bring full audiophile-quality sound to design-sensitive environments. The one-piece amplified speaker system/iPod docking station unites the best high fidelity playback with a smoothly sculptural form; created by international award-winning Native Design Ltd. of London. Zeppelin's highly polished stainless steel rear casing and contrasting, soft fabric shell yield a subtly beautiful whole that integrates harmniously into any living space and pleases a wide variety of tastes, while only quietly suggesting the power and high technology concealed within.
Zeppelin encompasses advanced digital signal processing, three-channel amplification totalling 100 watts, and integrated speakers-subwoofer utilizing Bowers & Wilkins' famed Nautilus reference-grade technologies. A "floating," polished stainless steel arm holds the iPod in an ergonomic, easy-operating position, while highlighting its own design and preserving familiar access for a fully intuitive user experience. A smart 30-pin docking port accepts (and charges) all current and recent iPods and iPhones™ without adapters or interchangeable bases, thanks to unique, spring-loaded design. A full range of connections including USB, aux-audio, and video outputs extends Zeppelin's value to a host of potential uses. Zeppelin is also world-ready, as the power supply works on voltages virtually anywhere-and the speaker system automatically enters power-saving "sleep" when the iPod is removed (for example, as one grabs it in rushing out the door).
Striking but simple design, high-quality materials and world-leading technology come together to deliver musical detail beyond expectations. Zeppelin's confident, individual design statement emphasizes the premium quality and brand values of Bowers & Wilkins and complements the design language of the Apple iPod docked to it.

B&W Unveils Compact Custom Theater Lineup; CT800-Series Addition
Downsized Range Retains True Reference Performance
North Reading, MA—September 2007— Bowers & Wilkins’ Custom Theater lineup, which brought the world-standard performance of B&W’s 800-series Nautilus™ designs to high-end custom-installed home theaters, created quite a stir upon its introduction two years ago. Now the British maker will unveil a new, more widely accessible Custom Theater lineup at the 2007 CEDIA Expo in Denver, Colorado. B&W’s CT700 Custom Theater lineup is more modest in enclosure size, and considerably more modest in price than the frankly cost-no-object Custom Theater 800 range—yet it delivers precisely the same kind of jaw-dropping sonic impact, timbral and dialogue integrity, and sonic transparency as its larger siblings.
The CT700 comprises three different front/surround-channel options, 10-inch and 12-inch subwoofers, plus an outboard, rack-mounted subwoofer amplifier of 1,000 watts. All five 700-series loudspeaker elements are finished in a durable matte black, being intended for custom-installed concealed locations behind acoustically transparent screens, in custom cabinetry, or built into custom theater partitions. (To facilitate such designs, maximum depth of all CT700 models is 10.5 inches.)
The new CT700 models uniformly employ B&W’s well-known, proprietary woven-Kevlar® materials technology in their midrange and low-frequency drivers. There, its unique acoustic properties inhibit unwanted vibrations, for impressive freedom from the colorations that degrade transparency and realism.
To eliminate reflections from projectors or other bright light sources all cones in the CT700 models utilize Blue Kevlar. Similarly, all CT700 models (save the subs) employ B&W’s famous Nautilus™ tube-loaded tweeter design to absorb the unwanted back wave from their high-frequency drivers, greatly promoting clarity and detail, as well as its FlowPort™ turbulence-canceling cabinet vents for improved bass definition and dynamic agility.
There are three options for CT700-series front and surround channels. The CT7.3 LCRS is a three-way layout using dual 8-inch Kevlar woofers, a 6-inch Kevlar midrange, and 1-inch cloth-dome, Nautilus-loaded tweeter. The two-way CT7.4 LCRS employs dual 6-inch Kevlar mid/bass drivers with the same tweeter system, while the generally similar CT7.5 LCRS substitutes a single 7-inch Kevlar mid/bass unit. All three CT700 variants are rigorously engineered for precisely matching timbre and overall transient and dynamics characteristics, so that a system may be freely laid out between any combination of models.
The 700-series Custom Theater subwoofers are compact, closed-box designs to facilitate installation in cabinetry or partitions. The CT SW12 utilizes a single very long-throw 12-inch driver composed of a paper/Kevlar composite, while the CT SW10 is proportionately identical using a 10-inch cone. Both CT700 subs are intended for use with their new companion, the SA1000 Subwoofer Amplifier. This deceptively compact (2U rackmount) unit less than 4 inches tall and barely 17 pounds in weight nonetheless produces an astounding 1,000 watts of subwoofer-range power, thanks to its ultra-efficient ICEpower™ Class D amplifier design. The SA1000 also incorporates extensive crossover flexibility, including equalization custom-tailored to the CT700 woofers, delivering deep-bass extension all the way to 18 Hz (CT SW12). Designers may easily specify multiple subwoofers, using each SA1000 to power as many as two units.
All of the Custom Theater CT700 models are supplied in matte black finish, with acoustically transparent, magnetically affixed grilles.
Also at Denver’s CEDIA 2007, Bowers & Wilkins will simultaneously introduce a new addition to the Custom Theater 800 series. Like its forbearers, the new CT8.4 LCRS, incorporates the legendary technologies of B&W’s 800 Series stand-alone speakers to achieve literally reference-standard performance. The CT8.4 LCRS packs the power to function excellently in front-, side- and rear-channel duties within a complete 800-series custom system. It is also a more compact alternative to the range’s CT8 DS side/rear channel speaker for use where space is at a premium. The CT8.4 LCRS’ 8-inch Kevlar/paper woofer, 6-inch woven-Kevlar FST midrange, and 1-inch aluminum Nautilus-loaded tweeter yield precisely the same authentically three-dimensional listening experience as its larger siblings.
B&W’s newest Custom Theater models will be available from October 2007, at the following manufacturer’s suggested prices:
CT7.3 LCRS $1,500
CT7.4 LCRS $1,000
CT7.5 LCRS $600
CT SW10 $tba
CT SW12 $tba
SA1000 Subwoofer Amplifier $tba
CT8.4 LCRS (Custom Theater 800 Series) $4,000

Bowers & Wilkins Brings 800 Series Technologies to an
All New 600 Series
British Firm's Best-Selling Line Gains Important
Performance Upgrades, Cosmetic Refinements
North Reading, MA—May 2007— B&W Loudspeakers, the British manufacturer recognized internationally as one of the world's leading sources of loudspeaker technology, has launched the fourth generation of its hugely popular 600 Series. Incorporating technologies from the firm's reference-standard 800 Series, the improvements represent a significant step forward in this price class.
"Applying much of our latest, most sophisticated technologies to our most accessibly priced products has long been a B&W design goal," says Doug Henderson, VP of Sales and Marketing. “We have proven over the years that the way to create new customers for our higher end products is to give them as much as we can at the entry level. The brand loyalty this creates is exceptional.”
Continuing, Henderson says, “In the case of our newest 600 Series models we have really pushed the limits of practical and cost constraints to emphasize what the brand is all about: advanced technology in the service of music, at all price levels. In fact, for many of us, hearing the results of leading-edge B&W technology working in our more affordable speakers is really the biggest thrill of all."
Each time the Bowers & Wilkins Steyning Research Establishment undertakes a redesign of the 600 Series they understand fully that they must produce something of a minor miracle in order to best their own previous standard.
Through three generations, they have raised the bar successively on what could be accomplished in modestly priced loudspeakers—each time achieving greater worldwide critical acclaim and commercial success.
While every price tier has its unique challenges, markedly improving performance within the necessary constraints of a limited budget is perhaps the toughest challenge of all. With the latest 600 models, Bowers & Wilkins is proud to say that their colleagues at Steyning have done just that. These new models testify to the remarkable pool of talent and resources that makes Bowers & Wilkins a singular global brand.
Call it the Six-Eight Series
The new 600 Series is nothing less than a complete top to bottom redesign, incorporating many of the leading edge technologies developed for the flagship 800 Series, with truly startling results for the price class. The line has been focused down to fewer models to suit current market requirements, each model having obvious “best in class” appeal. New finishes and more contemporary, refined cosmetics complete the package.
The reason behind the tremendous value offered by the new 600 Series is that Bowers & Wilkins has made a significant investment in a new purpose-built factory in China. To clarify: These are not OEM-sourced products! Bowers & Wilkins factory managers and engineers have spent more than two years supervising construction of this first-class manufacturing plant and training the operating staff. It is Bowers & Wilkins owned and managed with state-of-the-art production lines. In contrast to the many other companies that have moved production to third-party vendors in China to decrease costs at the expense of quality, Bowers & Wilkins ambition here was to put more content in the product at this price level. The results speak for themselves.
Bowers & Wilkins Flagship Technology Made Affordable.
Starting at the top, the new 600 Series Nautilus™ tube-loaded tweeter has been completely redesigned. A powerful new neodymium magnet replaces the ceramic magnet used in the past. The tweeter’s smaller size allows it to be placed closer to the midrange driver for more seamless integration and vertical dispersion, with resulting improvements in imaging. The new tweeter also makes use of single layer, edge-wound ribbon voice coil wire, and a copper plate on the pole piece. These techniques put more copper in the voice-coil gap, increase efficiency, lower distortion and extend the high frequency response. The tweeter also makes use of rolled-surround technology, which allows greater frequency extension before break-up. Braided lead-out wires from the diaphragm improve reliability, and a new surround material achieves a lower resonant frequency, with the net result of wider overall bandwidth and power handling. Compared with 600 S3 tweeters, the response has more than doubled, to 50 kHz, putting any distortion well outside the audible range.
The Kevlar® bass/midrange units developed for this range utilize a fixed center “bullet” piece that improves smoothness and dispersion in the upper frequencies. High quality, die-cast driver baskets are employed to minimize chassis resonance and rear wave turbulence. The 683 and the HTM61 center have the added benefit of the FST™ (Fixed Suspension Transducer) midrange pioneered in the Nautilus™ 800 Series. This breakthrough design has proven unequaled for midrange clarity and dynamics.
The 683’s twin woofers have been given an increase in magnet diameter from 100mm to 120mm, to provide higher sensitivity and tighter bass. The cone material used here consists of dual layers of aluminum and paper/Kevlar®, in a technique known as constrained layer damping, to reduce cone breakup and lower distortion. The woofer chassis is die-cast and features an open design with rounded support legs to reduce viscous drag.
The many driver refinements have allowed Bowers & Wilkins to employ minimalist first-order crossovers, like those in the 800 Series, built of premium quality components that were selected through extensive listening tests. Fewer components of higher quality translate directly to less signal degradation, with improvements in every aspect of performance.
Cabinet construction has also been improved by increasing the baffle thickness by 30%. This strengthening provides a better mechanical foundation for the bass driver(s), and reduces panel bending at higher volumes. The benefit is better bass definition.
Immediately noticeable are the many enhancements to the look and feel of the new models. Soft-touch baffle paint, screw-less driver trim rings, and an elegant diamond cut logo on a brushed aluminum surface, all give an amazingly high quality feel to such a reasonably priced range.
A Shorter, More Focused Line-up.
The latest 600 range has been streamlined to provide you with a full range of choices for both home theater and music system applications.
686 -- $450/pair. The new entry level model is a very compact (10.4” x 6.7” x 9.8” HWD) two-way vented design with a 5” Kevlar® bass/midrange driver and a 1” Nautilus™ tube-loaded aluminum dome tweeter. A remarkably solid performer that will challenge much larger designs, the 686 will sit happily on a bookshelf or stand, and comes with a wall bracket as well.
685 -- $600/pair. In a somewhat larger enclosure, with a 6.5” Kevlar® cone bass/midrange driver and the 1” Nautilus™ tube-loaded tweeter, the 685 is simply the best value bookshelf Bowers & Wilkins has ever made, replacing the 601S3 and the 602S3 with one elegant package.
684 -- $1,000/pair. Next up in the range is a two-and-half-way, vented-box, floorstander that features two new 6.5” Kevlar® cone bass/midrange drivers. The 684 is easily best in class at this price point, with a transparent, dynamic presentation. Its sophisticated cosmetic detailing and slim profile give it strong visual appeal.
683 --$1,400/pair. At the top of the new 600 Series is an impressive floor standing speaker. The 683 is a true three-way vented-box system with two high power, low distortion 6.5” aluminum bonded to paper/Kevlar® bass drivers. The first of the 600 series to receive the coveted 6” FST™ midrange driver, the 683 is rounded out with the same 1” aluminum tweeter and Nautilus™ housing.
Home Theater Takes Center Stage.
While the new 600 models are superb music reproducers, particular attention has been paid to the home theater aspects of the range.
HTM62 -- $400/each. HTM61 -- $600/each. Bowers & Wilkins provides two system-matching options for the all important center channel position. The first, the HTM62, is a two-way vented-box system with dual 5” Kevlar® bass/midrange drivers and a 1” Nautilus™ tube-loaded aluminum tweeter. The more potent HTM61 increases the SPL capability of the system with a true three-way vented-box system comprising one 6.5” Kevlar® bass/midrange, a 6” FST Kevlar® midrange, and a 1” Nautilus™ tube-loaded aluminum tweeter. The HTM61’s performance is simply amazing and offers a clear step-up opportunity.
To handle deep bass duties there are three new subwoofers that offer very compact dimensions and stylish cosmetics, yet really deliver the goods sonically. Each uses rugged driver cones formed from a precise mix of paper pulp, Kevlar® fibers and resin.
Two hundred watt Class D ICEpower® amplifiers provide clean, fast power while remaining cool and ultra-solid cabinet construction keeps the sound free from coloration even during the most demanding passages.
ASW608 -- $450/each. ASW610 -- $600/each. ASW610XP -- $1,000/each. First in the subwoofer line-up is the ASW608, with a long excursion 8” bass driver and retailing for $450. The output capability of this quite small design is -6dB at 25Hz, from an enclosure measuring only 10.2” x 10.2 x 13”! In the middle spot is the ASW610 with a robust 10” bass driver on a footprint only slightly larger (12.2” x 12.2” x 14.8”). Once again, Bowers & Wilkins achieves more output from a smaller enclosure. The ASW610 provides an excellent -6dB at 20Hz and sets a new benchmark for a modestly priced sub. For the largest theaters employing the 600 Series models, the ASW610XP is the perfect match. It features a superb new 10” driver driven by two 200W Class D ICEpower® amplifiers connected to its dual voice coils. This technique provides greater control and extension, to a truly impressive 18Hz, and is part of the reason the ASW610XP is Bowers & Wilkin’s best subwoofer effort yet at $1,000 retail.
DS3/CDS3 -- $400/each. To finish off the 600 Series home theater packages, Bowers & Wilkins has upgraded their very popular DS3 on-wall surround speaker, as well as its recessed cousin, the CDS3. Sharing all the new technologies developed for the range, this is a selectable dipole/monopole design with a 5” Kevlar® bass/midrange driver, two 3” midrange/ tweeters and the new 1” tweeter.
Finishes and Availability.
The new 600 Series will be available initially in two premium finishes: black ash and red cherry. A third finish, the very popular wenge, will be added later this year.
Bowers & Wilkins will begin shipping the 600 Series in two phased launches.
Phase I – Available June 1, 2007. Shipments will focus on music systems, with the top of the range 683 and the two bookshelf models, the 686 and 685. Also at this time the HTM62 center channel, CDS3 recessed surround, and DS3 on-wall (black only) will ship. As noted, finishes available initially will be black ash and cherry with wenge to follow later in the year.
Phase II – Available July/August 2007. Bowers & Wilkins will add the 684, HTM61, ASW608 and ASW610. The ASW610XP will follow these models 30 to 60 days later.

Bowers & Wilkins Bows New VM6 speaker
North Reading, MA — January 2007 — Britain’s B&W Loudspeakers,
known worldwide for its benchmark speakers for high-end audio and home-theater
systems, has introduced a new, audio/video application loudspeaker, the VM6.
According to Chris Browder, B&W’s Executive Vice President, “The
overwhelming popularity of flat panel TVs has created much demand for slim,
stylish loudspeakers. Unfortunately, these same design criteria consequently
limit many speakers’ performance, due mainly to internal volume constraints.
At B&W, our engineers did a great job of solving the challenges posed by
these constraints”
Bowers and Wilkins was among the first to enter this audio-for-video category
with the introduction of the extremely successful VM1 speaker in 2002. The
VM1’s hit the industrial design “bulls-eye” with flowing
curved lines and minimal cabinet depth. The real challenge, of course, was
to deliver an acoustic performance worthy of the B&W moniker. Thanks
to the innovative engineers at B&W’s Steyning research institute
the VM1’s accomplished the task and set new performance standards in
the category.
While the VM1’s continue to be very successful, there is a need for
an even higher performing product in this category. Enter the VM-6. The VM-6
is a two-way, ported, wall-mount or stand-mount design, which can be placed
in either a vertical or horizontal position. The wall bracket and table-top
stand are unique in that they are first wired with speaker cables and then
the speaker is slid into the bracket or stand to provide contact for the audio
signals. This allows for tidy cable routing, which keeps the installation clean
and modern. The wall bracket also provides for some side-to-side swiveling
to increase the available listening angles.
VM-6 incorporates many of B&W’s heralded innovations including
a one-inch aluminum dome Nautilus™ tweeter with tapered-tube technology,
and a five inch Kevlar® cone bass/midrange driver that delivers solid bass
down to 49Hz (-6dB). These driver elements are based on the same designs found
in B&W’s remarkable CM-1, which won the coveted EISA (European Imaging
and Sound Association) award for speaker of the year 2006.
VM-6 speakers are available in black, pearl white, and silver finishes with
complementary grill cloths of black (black finish), white (pearl white) and
mid-grey (silver finish).
VM6 speakers have a suggested retail of $450 each. They will be available
in January 2007.
