“PRETTY IN PINK,” “SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL” and “TRUE COLORS” on DVD

(Editor's Note, this is culled from a Paramount Press release)

Pretty in Pink

Paramount Home Entertainment delivers three classic favorites - PRETTY IN PINK, SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL and TRUE COLORS -- to DVD on August 20. Written by John Hughes, PRETTY IN PINK and SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL are two quintessential high school dramas that defined teen movies before they became the rage. Meanwhile, TRUE COLORS tests the bonds of friendship as two young lawyers explore their ideals and ethics as they embark on their career paths.

One of the best-known films of the 1980s starring well-known ‘Brat Pack’ members, Molly Ringwald (Sixteen Candles,) and Jon Cryer (Holy Man), PRETTY IN PINK (1986) illustrates the trials and tribulations of high school love. Attending a high school full of wealthy, ‘stuck-up’ peers, Andie Walsh (Ringwald) spends her free time working in a record store and taking care of her jobless, widowed father. While the challenges of trying to fit in with her peers are difficult enough, Andie also struggles with how to deal with her crush on Blane McDonough (Andrew McCarthy, St. Elm’s Fire), the popular boy in school. PRETTY IN PINK also stars Harry Dean Stanton (The Pledge), Annie Potts (Toy Story 2), James Spader (sex. lies and videotape) and Jim Haynie (Bulworth).

SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL (1987) stars Eric Stoltz (Mask), Mary Stuart Masterson (Bed of Roses) and Lea Thompson (TV’s “Caroline in the City”). Keith (Stoltz) is a blue-collar high school senior who has his eyes set on Amanda (Thompson), the most popular and

unattainable girl in school. Meanwhile, Amanda’s on again — off again boyfriend, Hardy (Craig Sheffer), does not approve of Keith moving in on his territory. Keith’s best friend Watts (Masterson), secretly harboring some feelings for Keith, strongly opposes the relationship between the two opposites, especially as she doesn’t want to see her best friend get hurt. When everyone’s true feelings surface, Keith must ultimately choose between his best friend and his dream girl to determine which one is really right for him.

Starring John Cusack (Serendipity) as Peter Burton and James Spader (The Watcher) as Tim Gerrity, TRUE COLORS (1991) chronicles the rocky friendship of two aspiring lawyers. After getting into a small car accident on the first day of law school, Peter and Tim find that they are destined to be friends. Tim has everything that Peter wants: a Senator’s daughter as his beautiful fiancée, a circle of friends in the political world and a great future ahead of him. Peter wants it all and will go to all costs to take everything away from Tim, including his fiancée, his friends and his dreams.
