PRETTY IN PINK, SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL and TRUE COLORS -- to DVD on August 20.
Written by John Hughes, PRETTY IN PINK and SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL are two
quintessential high school dramas that defined teen movies before they became
the rage. Meanwhile, TRUE COLORS tests the bonds of friendship as two young
lawyers explore their ideals and ethics as they embark on their career paths.
One of the best-known films of the 1980s starring well-known
Brat Pack members, Molly Ringwald (Sixteen Candles,) and Jon Cryer
(Holy Man), PRETTY IN PINK (1986) illustrates the trials and tribulations of
high school love. Attending a high school full of wealthy, stuck-up
peers, Andie Walsh (Ringwald) spends her free time working in a record store
and taking care of her jobless, widowed father. While the challenges of trying
to fit in with her peers are difficult enough, Andie also struggles with how to
deal with her crush on Blane McDonough (Andrew McCarthy, St. Elms Fire),
the popular boy in school. PRETTY IN PINK also stars Harry Dean Stanton (The
Pledge), Annie Potts (Toy Story 2), James Spader (sex. lies and videotape) and
Jim Haynie (Bulworth).
SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL (1987) stars Eric Stoltz (Mask), Mary
Stuart Masterson (Bed of Roses) and Lea Thompson (TVs Caroline in
the City). Keith (Stoltz) is a blue-collar high school senior who has his
eyes set on Amanda (Thompson), the most popular and
unattainable girl in school. Meanwhile, Amandas on again
off again boyfriend, Hardy (Craig Sheffer), does not approve of Keith
moving in on his territory. Keiths best friend Watts (Masterson),
secretly harboring some feelings for Keith, strongly opposes the relationship
between the two opposites, especially as she doesnt want to see her best
friend get hurt. When everyones true feelings surface, Keith must
ultimately choose between his best friend and his dream girl to determine which
one is really right for him.
Starring John Cusack (Serendipity) as Peter Burton and James
Spader (The Watcher) as Tim Gerrity, TRUE COLORS (1991) chronicles the rocky
friendship of two aspiring lawyers. After getting into a small car accident on
the first day of law school, Peter and Tim find that they are destined to be
friends. Tim has everything that Peter wants: a Senators daughter as his
beautiful fiancée, a circle of friends in the political world and a
great future ahead of him. Peter wants it all and will go to all costs to take
everything away from Tim, including his fiancée, his friends and his
dreams.
